When we brought the baby chicks home, they were living for 2 days out of the egg shell. According to the reading we were doing, this means they were still absorbing the contents of the egg. So for their first 2 days in this world, they maintained life that way. Now, we needed to get them water! So, we brought them home in a cardboard mailing box, carefully picked each one up, showed them the water, and watched them drink. There were 2 different waterers that we tried out. One was a nipple they pecked to release the fluid. This waterer contained an electrolyte packet with extra nutrients to help the chicks with the stress of their first days. The other waterer filled a trough. Since they were sooooo small, we read that it might be good to add clean rocks to the trough so they don’t drown. So, that is what we did.
